Everyone uses words! We rely on them to share ideas, exchange information, and express our creativity.

Yet what if writing always feels like a struggle? What if your words don’t reflect what you want to communicate? What if your voice is absent from the opportunity to answer an important question simply because you avoided writing?

What you need is a new strategy for learning how to write, one that encourages you to

write, revise, and polish

your words to communicate your intended message.

  • “That was fun! We took turns reading from the book. We worked together on writing, and then [Rachel] had me try some sentences on my own. She said I did a great job! And I can tell that [writing] is getting easier!”

    - 7th grader enrolled in a language immersion school.

  • I loved my writing lessons with Rachel. I knew after the first 10 minutes I was in good hands. Her gentle guidance helped make my manuscript better. We had a nice balance between me learning and writing new material, and her editing my existing work. I feel like I got a lot accomplished during my lessons. She is so kind and genuinely cared about my project.

    - Pam Pruiss, kayaker, retiree, and new writer.

  • I am so impressed that you have been able to maintain my son’s attention and interest! He came out of the lesson today energized and eager to tell me all about it. All of this is SO good for him and precisely the focused, individual attention on comprehension, and reading and writing skills that he needs. Thank you so much, I feel that he is really benefiting from these lessons!

  • “Rachel was able to clarify my work and encourage me to proceed when I couldn’t see the forest for the trees.”

Mary F., a poet, writer, and octogenarian.

Meet Your Word Tutor

Your Word Tutor lessons are held in-person at the Center for Performing Arts in south Minneapolis.

I’m delighted to have a dedicated space in which to meet one-on-one with students, and to work in a building that serves as a creative hub for neighbors in and around Kingfield.

Hi, I’m Rachel Gabriel.

My joy is to encourage people to practice their natural creativity, especially through the process of writing. I developed Your Word Tutor in response to an emerging need for a more personalized approach to learning—and growing!—the skills needed to write with clarity and intention.

With over two decades of experience as a practicing writer and teaching artist, I have worked with a diverse community of students on a variety of projects! What do you want to communicate? Contact me, and let’s begin.
